Garlic is the second most widely grown bulb crop next to the onion. It is an important cash crop with wider agro-ecological adaptation. However, its productivity is constrained by several factors. Among these, the use of inappropriate clove size for planting material and intra row spacing are the major problems in relation to agronomic practices. A field experiment was conducted during 2020/2021 irrigation season to evaluate the effects of clove size and intra row spacing on yield and yield components of garlic in North Wollo zone Gubalafto woreda. The treatment consisted of five intra row spacing (5, 7.5, 10, 12.5 and 15 cm) and three clove sizes; large (2.0-2.5g), medium (1.5-1.9g) and small (1.0-1.49g). The treatments were arranged with factorial combination in randomized complete block design with three replications. Data on the growth, yield, and yield components of garlic were collected as per their respective standard procedures and analyzed using SAS 9.4 software. The results revealed that the interaction effect of intra row spacing and clove size significantly influenced all the tested parameters. The highest marketable yield (22.53 t ha ), plant height (60.1cm), bulb diameter (3.47cm), bulb size (52g), clove size (3.81g) and total bulb yield (23. 11 t ha -1 ) were obtained from interaction effect of 7.5 cm intra row spacing with a large clove size. The partial budget analysis had shown that treatment combination of large clove size (22.5g) with 7.5 and 10 cm intra-row spacing gave the highest net benefit of 1,497,240 ETB per hectare with an acceptable MRR of 200%. Based on the results of the present study use of large clove size (2-2.5g) planted at 7.5cm intra row was economically feasible and could be recommended for garlic growers in Gubalafto district of North Wollo and areas with similar agro- ecologies. -1
