Across sectional study was conducted from November 2020 up to June 2021 to determine the epidemiology and public health importance of bovine Cysticercosis at Haik municipal abattoir, Haik town South wollo. Systematic random sampling technique was used to select sampling units and out of 384 animals inspected during the study period 19 (4.9%) where infected with C. bovis. The affected organs were shoulder, liver, tongue, heart, and masseter muscle, with an infection rate of 3.4%, 1.8%, and 3.9%, 0.3% and 2.3% respectively. Cysts were found in shoulder (77.8%), liver (66.7%), tongue (85.2%), heart (100%) and masseter (76.9) %). Proportions of viable cysts, 79.4 % (54/68) were viable, while 20.6% (14/68) were non-viable. The occurrence of C.bovis has not statistically significant difference (p>0.05) to age, sex and breed of animals. There was a significance difference in body condition (p<0.05); p=0.025. From a total 56 interviewed respondents, 4 (7.1%) of them said they were infected with human taeniosis (T. saginata) at least once in their life time. There was statistically significant difference in the prevalence of taeniosis between different level of education (p<0.05; p=0.021), different religion groups (p<0.05; p=0.022) and different level of raw meat consumers (p<0.05; p=0.000). The prevalence of taeniasis showed significant difference (p<0.05) with habit of raw meat consumption, religion and level of education. . A retrospective study was conducted in Haik primary hospital and a total of 3261 patients‟ record reviewed were 0.2% (5/3261) positive for T. saginata. Therefore, attention should be given to the public awareness and routine meat inspection to be safe to public health and promote to avoid consumption of raw meat.
