dc.description.abstract Gəˀəz hagiographies constitute the largest group of sources for medieval Ethiopian history. Gӓdl, among the subgenre of hagiography, is an important source for historical, language, literary and theological studies in addition to the deed of saints. This study assessed one of the Gӓdl in Gəˀəz literature written for saint ˁEnəqwo Śəllase. Its objective was to analyze thematically the Gӓdl of the Gӓdl ˁEnəqwo Śəllase. The study used qualitative research design through thematic data analysis by obtained primary data from the manuscript. The study would fill the gaps of political histories, the life, contribution and struggle of this saint in the 17th that was not studied yet. As the result, the saint ˁEnəqwo Śəllase was Ethiopian monastic father who lived in the 17th century he was born from his father Ḥära Dǝngǝl and from his mother Wälättä Ḥäwaryat. Their son Zämädəhn escaped twice from the hands of the enemy, once in Wäläqa and once in Bägemdər, because the goodness of God hid and protected him. Preaching the Gospel, ethical educations, founding the monastery are some contribution of the saint. The vita also highly discussed the emergence of Catholicism and its consequence in Ethiopia. The result also narrated about the intertextuality of the vita such as Quotation, Paraphrase and Allusion. And also the language used in the vita such as Human (personification), Metaphor, Symbolism, Simile and Hyperbole (Exclamation). So, the vita is highly important source for historical, language, intersexuality and theological studies in addition to the deed of saints 17th century. en_US
