Rust (Puccinia allii R.) is the major problem in garlic production in most areas of north
western Ethiopia. Thus this study was conducted during 2020 cropping season.(1)To
assessthe prevalence, incidence and severity of garlic rust in Enebsie Sarmider and
GonchaSisoEnesie.
(2)Evaluate the appropriate rate and frequency of Tilt application to manage garlic rust .Out
of the total 60 fields assessed garlic rust disease was observed in thirty-seven (61.6%) garlic
farm fields. Relatively high mean incidence, severity, and prevalence of garlic rust was
observed at Enebsie Sarmider district which was 51.333%, 25.267% and 69.987%
respectively and 40% incidence, 13.4% severity and 53.33% prevalence were recorded at
Goncha Siso Enesie district. A field sown in August and September showed (59%) and
(39.5%) severity respectively and a field with high plant population (56%) had the highest
severity in relation to their respective variable classes in the districts during the cropping
season. Rain feed field experiment was conducted at Bête emider kebele of Enebsie Sarmider
in 2020 cropping season. Treatments were arranged in factorial randomized complete block
design with three replications .The combination of(0.65l,0.75l,1l)rates and (F1,F2,F3and F4)
spraying frequency of Tilt fungicide and unsprayed treatments was evaluated. Analysis of
variance revealed that a combination of rate and spraying frequencies of the fungicide
significantly reduced disease with correspondingly increased bulb yield of garlic. The
economic analysis confirmed that the highest net benefit (682432.5ETBha
) and marginal
rate of return (10422.1%) was obtained from plots treated with 0.75L with three times
spraying. Generally, 0.75L with three times spraying frequency of Tilt was effective in
controlling garlic disease and get the highest cost-benefit advantage as compared with other
treatments. It should be repeated in other location that has similar agro ecology before it is
recommended for the management of garlic Ethiopia.
