ABSTRACT
The main focus of this study is on character archetypes found in Sara J. Mass’s “Throne of
Glass” series. Exploring the major archetypal motifs is the major objective of the study. The
study focuses on textual analysis of the selected novels, and qualitative research method is
proved to be the most appropriate approach for this study. Based on the theory of Carl Gustav
Jung, the researcher has tried to analyze the seven novels of Sara J. Mass’s Throne of Glass
series, focusing on major character archetypes. In the introduction part, the background of the
study, the problem of the statement, the objectives of the study, the scope of the study and the
methodology used in the study are discussed. The second chapter consists of the review of
related literature. I this part of the study, previous studies that in one way or another related
with this study are related with this study are discussed. The third chapter is the theoretical
framework. In this chapter the researcher explains about the meaning of archetypes and their
uses. There is a discussion of archetypes that represent real life symbols and their representation
is expressed using specific examples. Based on the theoretical discussion, the researcher
conducted an in-depth analysis of the major character archetypes in the selected seven novels of
the Throne of Glass series. After the analysis, the researcher has come to conclude that the
Throne of Glass series shows different character archetypes that can be examined and observed
in different ways. |
