Abstract
M;st people want to communicate with others for different purposes. Thus for effective
communication, words play a vital role. Although vocabulary is important for real
communication, it has not given much attention at any school. This leads to learners cannot
communicate in English effectively. For instance, students did not participate in different co
curricular activities and did not communicate effectively inside and outside the classroom in
English. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of communicative way
of teaching vocabulary. In line with this, the specific objective was to measure
communicative way of teaching which enhances students' vocabulary knowledge and use.
The design of this research was quasi-experimental study. This study consisted of two groups.

Namely experimental and control groups. The participants consisted of two classes in grade
11 students. In each section, there were 42 students. During the study the experimental group
was taught vocabulary through communicative approach while the control group was taught
through traditional method that teachers still use in the classroom that is lecture method and
relies on student textbook. In order to get valid and reliable information, pre test, post test
.. d interview that was semi structured were employed. The data obtained from pre test and
']mst test were analyzed using t-test and the data obtained from interview was analyzed in
descriptive way. The finding of the study showed that to great extent communicative way of
teaching enhances students' vocabulary knowledge and use. This implied that students who
were taught vocabulary in communicative way of teaching showed an improvement in their
word power and communicate effectively. |
