dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of explicit instruction in the use of discourse markers on paragraph writing skills with reference to Makesgnitpreparatory school in grade I /h students . Quasi- experimental design was used to explore the problem under the study. The subject of the study was 32 grade 11111 students. In order to gather data writing tests and questionnaire were utilized. The data from close ended questions were analyzed using ~ frequency and percentage. On the other hand, the data from open ended question using words .. As a result, the findings of the study found out that those students who were taught explicit instruction in the use of discourse markers on paragraph writing showed a significant improvement in their paragraph writing ability. c. en_US
