Abstract:
This study examined the impact of cooperative learning on student academic achievement
and practical skill in physical education to some selected schools at Farta Woreda. This
study used experimental research design. 165 grade ten students were selected for each
experimental group and control group to complete their task. 9 physical education
teachers were selected for the questionnaire survey from the selected high schools. Pre
test, post test as well as survey were noted and analyzed. Both qualitative and
quantitative techniques were used in data analyses section. Statistical difference in the
students' academic achievement and practical skills exposed for individual learning and
cooperative learning among the study sites (Fert, Gassy and Kirner Dengay secondary
schools) were tested by General Model of Multivariate Analysis (Two- ANOVA) using
SPSS window version 20 software at p < 0. 05 significant levels. Mean comparisons were
made using post hoc or least significant difference (LSD) test at 1% and 5 % levels, in
order to assess 'variations 'in the students' academic achievement and practical skills
exposed for different teaching method by study sites. Regarding with the factors for
cooperative learning execution, the sample respondent perceived that lack of training
materials, number, misbehaviour of the .students and enthusiastic approaches of the
-teachers arethe main detrimental factors that distress the overall learning performance
of the students during cooperative learning activities. The two- way analysis of variance
• showed that there was not significant variation (P < 0. 05) in the pre-test score of the
students academic achievement and practical skill exposed for individual and
cooper(ttiv; learning by areas and teaching methods but, there were significant
difference in the student's academic result and practical skill proficiency by areas and
teaching method at (P<0.01; P<:0.05) for all post-test results. These result entails that

cooperative learning approach would be encouraged because, it showed a remarkable
