Abstract:
This study was conducted to assess the participation of students with physical disability
specifically musculoskeletal disabilities in physical education practical class of
government general secondary schools in Gondar town administration. Descriptive survey
study design was employed. The respondents in the study were 29 students with physical
disability, 8 school principals, and 29 physical education teachers who were deliberately
selected from Gondar town general secondary schools. Questionnaire, interview and
observation were used for data collection. SPSS version 20 software was used for data
analysis. Descriptive statistics (percentage) and descriptive statements were used to
analyze the collected data. The findings of the present study shows 94% of student
respondents answered that they are not participating in physical education practical class.
Regarding teachers encouragement, 54% of the student respondents agreed that teachers
give no encouragement to physically disabled students to participate in the practical
session. 8,9% of teacher respondents agreed that lack of training on the way how to
provide opportunities to physically disabled students is one of the major challenges to the
teacher's side. In conclusion, lack of materials, equipment's, school principals support
and incomprehensive curriculum are found as a challenge which limits participation of
students with physical disability _ in school Physical education practical classes and
gene~ally the researcher recommend physical education teachers to organize students
with physical disabilities beside the participation of theoretical classes and theoretical
exam; they have to participate in the practical classes and practical exams ..
