dc.description.abstract Climate variability is a major threat to the agricultural product of potato. Unpredictable fluctuations in rainfall patterns, temperature, precipitation, and unique storms have had an impact on the profit of potato producers and other stakeholders.Theaimof the study was find out how climate variability affects potato production in Guwagusa Shkudad district, Awi zone, North Western Ethiopia, and how adaption measures are used to deal with itappropriate data were collected from two sample kebele having different agro ecology. A total of 338 household heads wasselected from sample kebele (gusha and Absla)through simple random sampling method. The data was collected through FGD, key informant interview and household survey methods .additionally, monthly rainfall andtemperature fromEthiopia Meteorology Agency datain the year 1992-2022 used to analyses the trends and variability of temperature in the area. Potato yield was collected from 2008 to2022 fromGuwagusa Shkudad agricultural office. Linear regression analysis, correlation, trend analysis, Precipitating concentration index, rainfall anomaly index, and coefficient variance were used to analyze the data.Mann-Kendall test estimate test were applied to identify the existing trend analysis. Decrease in rainfall and an increase in temperature were recorded in the study area. Also the results of Correlation Coefficients indicated that the relationship between, annual, summer rainfall and Temperature with potato yield. Potato yield is nonlinearly affected by variations in rainfall and temperature.72%dependent variable is affected by independent variable (Rainfall and temperature). The result indicates that potato yield is negative relationship with temperature and positively correlate with rainfall. Therefore the farmers have used adaptation mechanisms such as yield diversification, planting trees, soil and water conservation, changing planting dates, andgrowing short-maturing crops, practicing horizontal plowing, application of fertilizer .Thus studies should be investigated on the effect of climate variability on potato production and its adaptation strategies in Guwagusa Shkudad district. en_US
