Abstract:
Introduction, In Ethiopia, there is no scientific evidence indicating the anthropometric
characteristics, nutritional intake and physical fitness performances of men premier league
volleyball players. Thus, the purpose of the study to investigate the relationship between
anthropometric characteristics, nutritional intake status and physical fitness quality of men
volleyball player’s in Ethiopian premier league. Methods To achieve set goal of the present
study adapted a cross-sectional survey and correlational research designs. 48 men
volleyball players encompassed from four Premier League clubs who are actively
participate in the 2021/22 competition year. MC (n=12), WD (n=12), TBD (n=12), and
ETDF (n=12). To obtain necessary data practical field test and self-reporting diary were
used as data collection instruments. In the study twenty anthropometric, three macronutrient
and three physical fitness variables were assessed. Descriptive statistics, Onesample
T-test,
Pearson
Product
Moment
correlation
coefficients,
Multiple
Regressions
were
employed
by using SPSS (V.25). Result, the finding of this study revealed that the average
height, weight, spike and blocking reach of Ethiopian men volleyball players was 1.88
(±.093) cm, 76.31 (±8.29) kg, 309 (±18.56) cm and 299.1 (±18.64) cm, which was
significantly different and lesser than to the international players p<0.01. In the other
finding, energy, carbohydrate, fat, and protein intakes of volleyball players expressed in
units per kilogram of body weight which was 30.30 (±2.68)kcal, 3.71 ±(.30)g, 1.10 (±.12)g
and 1.38 (±.16)g, which was significantly different and lower than to the recommended
guidelines p<0.01. Also, other descriptive result, the mean sprinting (speed), medicine ball
throw(strength) and vertical jumping (power) score of Ethiopian men volleyball players
was 1.58 (±12.55)sec, 6.44 (±.77)m, 59.06 (±13.31)cm. In correlation finding, most of the
anthropometric variables positively correlated with selected physical fitness components,
in other independent variable carbohydrate nutrient only have positive correlation with
whole selected physical fitness trait. In regression model result shows, upper leg length and
body mass index found to be most predictor of speed quality; weight and sitting height
found to be the most predictor of upper body strength and spike reach height and standing
reach height for explosive power capacity, also in the other variable finding carbohydrate
was most predictor of speed and strength quality of payers.
