Abstract:
The purpose of the paper as to examine the determinant factors affecting the success of
micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Jigjiga City, Somali Regional State. To examine the
determinant factors, the thesis has adopted quantitative research approach. Both
descriptive and explanatory research designs were used in the thesis. MSEs in Jigjiga city
administration were purposely selected on the basis of time preference and location
accessibility. Two sub city administrations were selected among the four sub-cities randomly
by using lottery method including Karamara and Dudahidi. Stratified random sampling was
used to get information from different sizes of the MSEs. The total populations of the study
were 1193, of which 299 samples were used, determined using Yemane formula. The result
revealed that financial factors, marketing factors, managerial factors and entrepreneurial
factors are found to have significant impact on the success of micro and small enterprises in
Jigjiga city. Hence, it is recommended that the city administration should emphasis on the
factors mentioned to have positive contribution on the success of micro and small
enterprises.
