Background: The success of any organization always depends on the participation and job performance of their employees. In this regard, health care professionals’ job performance level is the cornerstone for ensuring health service quality and patient satisfaction of health care organizations. Low performance of health care professionals also obviously hinders health care organizations’ (hospitals’) service quality and a reason for poor health outcome of hospitalized patients. The aim of this study was to measure the level of job performance and to identify predictors of job performance of health care professionals. Method: Cross sectional study was conducted at public hospitals of Awi zone from Nov 12/2022 to Nov 27/2022. The outcome variable was job performances of HCPs while the independent variables were leadership, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, work environment, motivation, and competence and socio demographic factors. Sample size which was determined using single population proportion formula was 370. Study participants were also drawn randomly after sample size for each hospital was proportionally allocated. The outcome variable was measured with 8 items using threshold demarcation formula. The collected data was entered in to EPI-data version 3.1 and exported to SPSS version 25 for analysis. The association between dependent and independent variables was analysed using binary logistic regression. Result: Majority of health care professionals (77.2%) had good job performance. The result revealed that the odds of good job performance among GPs were about 5 times higher as compared to that of nurses with [AOR= 4.832(1.213,19.247)]. The odds of good job performance among health care professionals with good level of motivation were 2.458 times higher than those HCPs with poor level of motivation with [AOR= 2.458 (1.322,4.568)]. The Chronbach’s alpha for tool reliability and Hosmer- Lemshow model fitness test were checked with values 0.87 and 0.656 respectively. Conclusion: The level of job performance of majority health care professionals was good. General practitioner professional type and level of motivation were significant predictors of job performance. Motivating health care professionals is imperative to enhance the level of their job performance. Key words: Health care professionals, job performance, public hospitals, Awi zone
