Abstract:
Background: One in three women worldwide subjected to reproductive rights violence by intimate partners. Although reproductive right violence a current public health issue which cause for disability and morbidity to women in our country, husbands’ knowledge on reproductive rights and associated factors remains an under-researched topic in the study area and nation at large. Thus, studying this topic helps to plan prevention towards women’s reproductive rights violence by their husbands.
Objective: To assess the prevalence of husbands’ knowledge and associated factors on partners’ reproductive rights in Bahir Dar city, Northwest Ethiopia 2021
Methods: A community- based cross-sectional study was conducted among 609 husbands in Bahir Dar city Northwest Ethiopia from September to October 2021. A multistage systematic random sampling technique was used to select study participants. Data was collected using interviewer administered structured questionnaires. Epi Data version 3.1 was used to enter data then exported and analyzed by using SPSS version 23. Bi- variable and multi-variable logistic regression analyses was done to identify factors associated with husband knowledge. On multi variable logistic regression p- value < 0.05 was used to declare statistical significance. Odds ratio with 95% confidence interval was take to show strength of association.
Result: The prevalence of husband’s knowledge on partners’ reproductive right was 50.2 % (95% CI 46.4-54) and it had statistically significant association with age ≥ 50 years (AOR=2.06, 95%, CI; 1.14-3.74), education level college and above (AOR=2.78,95%CI: 1.36-5.69), mass media use (AOR= 3.10, 95%CI: 2.08- 4.61), respondents who had a spousal discussion on reproductive issues (AOR=1.88,95%CI: 1.26-2.81).
Conclusion and Recommendation: The study was comparable with previous studies. Respondent’s age ≥50 years, education level, mass media use and spousal discussion on reproductive issues showed a significant association with husbands’ knowledge on partners’ reproductive rights. Add husband knowledge on partner reproductive right by providing education via mass media as recommended.
