Abstract:
Background; to makes an evidence-based intra partum practice, clinical research and updates matters. Having practiced as obstetric care provider the researcher observed that most of the obstetric care provider are still using routine intra-partum care interventions not supported by evidence based practices. With regards all the various programs and strategies to promote the use of clinical research and updates, there is still a gap in practicing. A number of studies from various countries have reported that obstetric provider’s experience of evidence-based practice is low. In Ethiopia limited study was conducted to assess this problem.
Objective: The purpose of this study, hence was to assess the magnitude of evidence-based intra-partum care and its associated factors Among obstetric care providers in West Amhara Region Referral Hospitals, Northwest Ethiopia; Ethiopia 2021.
Methods: facility-based, cross-sectional study design using mixed approaches was conducted among 402 obstetric care provider’s in west amhara Referral Hospitals, Northwest Ethiopia.. For the quantitative Hospitals are selected randomly. All obstetric care providers registered in each selected referral hospitals were participated in the study. The data were collected using structured and pre-tested self-administered questionnaire; from September 1 to October30/2021. The collected data were entered, coded/recoded and cleaned in Epidata V3.4. And then exported to SPSS V 23 for analysis .Bivariable and multivariable binary logistic regression was done. For qualitative phenomenological study design was used. Data was collected by in-depth interviews. Respondents were selected purposively, based on their profession and working area in the hospitals. Interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed. Thematic analysis was done by using soft ware atlas.ti version 7.
Result: From the total of 402 study participants 385 responded for the question with a response rate of (96%).The overall magnitude of evidence-based intra-partum care was 55.3% with 95% CI (50.4-60.3). There is a significant association between evidence-based intra-partum practice and knowledge of the care provider [AOR=4.00; 95% CI (2.14, 7.14)], salary [AOR=3.75; 95% CI (1.40-12.76)], attitude [AOR=3.61; 95% CI (2.00-6.45)] and having of training on EBP [AOR=2.92; 95% CI (1.30-5.67)].
Conclusion and recommendation: The current evidence-based practice of intra-partum care
among obstetric care providers West Amharic region Referral Hospitals was is still low which is 55.3%. Knowledge, attitude, salary and training were factors statistically associated with evidence based intra-partum practice. Considering salary of the professionals, Intervention programs on awareness creation, training, resource provision, and curriculum issues to improve implementation of evidence based intra-partum practice by stakeholders are recommended.
