Abstract:
Households and solid waste station responsibility were found to have significant association with
community’s satisfaction on small scale solid waste collection enterprises in Gondar city Background: Community satisfaction on the practice of solid waste collection plays significant role for the success of the collection process. However, community’s satisfaction is affected by various factors which in turn influence proper solid waste collection process.
Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the community’s satisfaction and associated
factors of small-scale solid waste collection enterprises in Gondar city.
Methods: Using a mixed cross-sectional study design; quantitative data were collected from
937(male=364 & female=573) household heads. Whereas, qualitative data were collected form 5 key informants. Pre-tested structured questionnaire and semi-structured interview guide were used to collect quantitative and qualitative data respectively. Quantitative data were analyzed using statistical software; SPPS version 25. Specifically, frequency, percentage, binary logistic regression was used to analyze the quantitative data. The variables which have significant association were identified using odd ratio (OR), with 95% CI and cut point of P- value 0.25 and
0.05 for crude and adjusted odd ratio respectively. Thematic analysis was used for qualitative data.
Results: three hundred eight seven (41.3%) of the household heads were satisfied with the current service of small scale solid waste collection enterprise. Household heads who had monthly income greater than 4000 Birr were 2.182 times more likely to satisfy as compared to respondents who had monthly income of less than or equal to 2000 Birr(AOR=2.182,CI(1.349-
3.530)). Respondents with educational level of diploma and above were 38% have satisfaction compared to no formal education (AOR=0.375, CI (0.209-0.672)). The age category of 18-32 and 33-47years respondents who were 21% and 25% have satisfaction those compared respondents those age category >63 years (AOR=0.208, CI (0.103-0.420) and (AOR=0.254, CI (0.125-0.515)) respectively. Respondents who did separate the solid waste before onsite storage were 2.15 more likely to satisfy as compared to respondents who not separated the solid waste before onsite storage (AOR=2.154, CI (1.568-2.960)) and respondents who the ownership of the private/own house respondents who were 39% have satisfied those compared respondents who were tenant(AOR=0.387,CI(0.263-0.569)).
