Discharge of untreated chromium containing wastewater into the environment poses a serious environmental and health problem. The aim of the study was to Synthesis of Water hyacinth root as Biosorbent for the removal and recovery of Cr (VI) from aqueous solution. Treated water hyacinth root powder (TWHRP) can be used as an adsorbent to remove pollutants from waste water streams. Water Hyacinth exist in plenty amount in Ethiopia. Despite Adsorbent has been produced from different lignocellulosic biomass waste, utilizing Water hyacinth root as an adsorbent has a great advantage. Since , it is a new raw material which is easily available. More over it can be a way of reducing environmental pollution and economical crisis of the industries by recovering chromium. In this study, Proximate Composition, surface charge, FTIR and SEM Analysis prior to bio sorption process and recovery process were analyzed. In this investigation the removal efficiency was done by using sulfuric acid treated WHRP at different levels of process parameters conditions (pH, contact time, Adsorbent Dosage and Initial metal concentration) and the Removal efficiency was obtained from 16.98 - 97.11%. The maximum removal efficiency was obtained with pH of 2, dosage of 0.55g per 100 ml of solution, time with 150 min and initial metal concentration of 10 mg/l process conditions . As the result of response surface method optimization, the predicted optimum removal efficiency of Cr (VI) (98.08%) were found at an optimum process conditions of pH at 2.01, dosage of 0.59g per 100 ml of Cr (VI) solution, contact time of 62.77 min and Initial metal concentration of 10.12 mg/l. Adsorption of Cr (VI) by TWHRP fitted both Langmuir and Freundlich model for the isotherm model with Adsorption Kinetics of pseudo second order model. Desorption study was also carried out with desorption of Cr (VI) from TWHRP by using NaOH as an eluent. Batch experiments were conducted to determine the effects of various operating parameters namely eluent concentration and eluent volume. Among the different eluent concentration tested, 0.5M with 30 ml was found to be the most effective condition of eluent for Cr (VI) desorption. In addition by using Bacl2 (H2O) 2, Bacro 4 were also recovered from the whole process. Therefore, using treated water hyacinth root powder has good removal efficiency.
