In order to ensure the prompt availability in adequate quantity of drugs at the time of need, they must be kept ready in stock. This requires good pharmaceutical store management and planning. The main purpose this study was to assess the pharmaceutical storage practice and stock levels of selected essential drugs in public health facilities of AWI zone. A facility based crosssectional study was conducted on 47 public health facilities using standard check lists (LSAT & LIAT) developed from the USAID DELIVER project used to asses’ the health commodity logistic system performance. A total of 43 health centers and 4 hospital pharmaceutical stores were included in the study with response rate of 100%. 44.7% of public health facilities follow the good Pharmaceutical Storage practice which meets more than 80% of the thirteen universally recognized pharmaceutical storage guidelines. 66% of the health facilities had skilled store manager staffs WHO are able to record and report the pharmaceutical product stock status regularly and timely. From the fifteen selected essential drugs, twelve of the drugs were in between the minimum and maximum stock level in 74.5% of the health facilities.
