dc.description.abstract Gender inequality has turned out to be a great global multifaceted and deep rooted problem particularly in developing nations like Ethiopia. The inequality is especially stark in administration and management sphere. The strategies aimed at reducing gender inequality need to identify and analyze the factors that influence women’s to participate in leadership and management . In this regard, this study is conducted to identify and analyze factors influencing women’s intention to participate in leadership and management position in Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Bahir Dar City Branches and forward some possible recommendations for solving the problems identified by the study. In order to attain the objectives of the study, a sample of 164 respondents were selected by classifying the whole population in to two strata, hence simple random sampling is applied for the first strata which consists those women employees who are in non-managerial positions where as census is applied for the second strata which includes those women employees who are in managerial position. The data used in this study is mainly primary and cross sectional survey method is used in data gathering from those sample respondents by using questionnaire and the data is analysed based on descriptive and inferential statistics. Multiple regression model is fitted to identify factors influencing women’s intention to participate in leadership and management. In this case women’s intention to participate in leadership and management is taken as a dependent variable while the set of sociocultural, organizational and personal factors are used as explanatory variables and it tried to show cause effect relationship between these variables. After careful review of literatures with regard to the relationship between independent and dependant variables, the hypotheses were developed to guide and to be tested based on the result of inferential statistics. Results of the multiple regression model and the overall study revealed that, all the three factors sociocultural, personal and organizational factors have negative and significant effect on women’s intention to participate in leadership and management in CBE, Bahir Dar City Branches. The study indicated that women in some cases are even ignored and isolated from leadership and management positions that affect them. Therefore, these factors can cause gender gap in leadership positions and an ambitious dealing with the gender inequality in leadership such as encouraging leadership through motivating, networking, mentoring, providing leadership training and empowering women in decision making systematically might narrow down the persisting gaps and can help women’s to become a leader. en_US
