dc.description.abstract Back ground - Nutritional rickets is a disease that affects children and adolescents during times of rapid growth. It is merely caused by a simple deficiency in Vitamin D and Calcium thus can be easily corrected if detected early. It is also prevalent in Ethiopia despite the abundant sunshine. v Objective - The objective of this study was to determine the magnitude and factors contributing to nutritional rickets in infants and children who visited five pediatric centers of Addis Ababa Hospitals. Methods-An institutional based cross-sectional study was conducted among under five children attending five pediatric centers of Addis Ababa by taking a total sample size of 423 from June 10– August 10/ 2017. Probability sampling and clinical examination methods were used for the selection of individual respondent. Data was entered and analyzed using SPSS version 20and tested for significance at p<.05 and 95%CI. Results- A total of 397 subjects were included in the study and the prevalence of rickets was 26(6.5%). Complementary feeding start with mixture of egg and milk porridge with AOR=0.232 (0.047,1.155),thought of harmful effect of sun light exposure AOR=3.26(1.097,9.71),time spent in direct sun light AOR 1.141 (0.022,1.917),were significantly associated with rickets in this study. Conclusion and Recommendation- The prevalence of rickets was high and associated with complementary feeding start with, thought of harmful effect of sun light exposure and the time spent on direct sun light were the associated factors for the cause of rickets indicating the need for health education on proper complementary food preparation and usefulness and time spent on sunshine exposure. en_US
