dc.description.abstract Background: obesity and overweight are major public health problem worldwide. It endangers the health, social and economic development of both developing and developed countries. Obese and overweight reproductive age (15-49years) women are the most vulnerable group of population.. However, data on the Prevalence of obesity and overweight and its associated factors among reproductive age women (15-49 years) are limited in Ethiopia, particularly in the study area. Objective:Toassess the prevalence of overweight/obesity and associated factors among reproductive age women (15-49 years) in Bahir Dar city North West Ethiopia. Methods:: Community based cross-sectional study was conducted from April 07 to jun 07, 2018. A toal of 534 women were used by selected using systematic sampling technique. Data was collected by using face to face interviewer administered with pretested questionnaire with measurement of weight and height. Data were checked, coded and entered to Epi-info version 7 and were exported to SPSS 23 for analysis. Binary logistic regression was performed with a cutoff P value <0.2 for variables to enter into multivariable regression. Adjusted odds ratio with 95% CI at 5% level of significance was used to measure the strength and significance of association between dependent and explanatory variable. Results: The prevalence of overweight/obesity among women of reproductive age groups in Bahir Dar city was found to be 25.1%. Parity (AOR=3.105,95% C:1.108,8.700),average HH monthly income>=8000EB(AOR=3.873:95%CI:1.804,8.312), Age of 20-29 years (AOR =0.389, 95 % CI: 0.170,0.889), Relationship with household head(wife) (AOR =3.13 95% CI: (1.328,7.389) and frequency of diary product intake/week(AOR = 3.601,95% CI:1.452,8.926 ) were independent predictors for overweight and obesity among reproductive age women in Bahir Dar city. Conclusion : The overall prevalence of Overweight/obesity among reproductive age women in Bahir Dar City was high which was significantly associated dairyproduct intake, higher monthly income, number of parity, relation to household head (being wife) and age of (20-29). Recommendation:hence,preventive interventions by focusing on need of behavior change related services to improve health through increased physical activity and good dietary practices through the consumption of fruit and vegetable which areessential to prevent the emergence of adulthood overweight/obesity. en_US
