Abstract:
Back Ground Growth monitoring (GM) involve the regular weighing of young children help to identify the growth faltering before being serious.GMP recognized as an important public health indicator for monitoring nutritional status and health in populations and used to make child growth visible through mothers‟ regular contacts with GMP service to improve practices by early detection of causes and corrective actions for growth faltering.
There scarce of researches undertaken on the service utilization of GMP in Ethiopian context and particularly in the Amhara region. Thus, this study was conducted to determine proportion of GMP services utilization and associated factors among children under2 years in households of Yilmana Denisa Woreda, west Amhara Ethiopia.
Method Community based cross sectional study was conducted from June 10 to July 25, 2018, 2018.Single population proportion formula was used to estimate sample size in multistage sampling technique and total of 475 samples below two years were taken.
Result The response rate was 100% with proportion of 30.7% utilizationof GMP service. Mothers aged thirty years and above[AOR=1.79; (95% CI=1.06, 3.02)], institutional delivery [AOR=1.81; (95% CI=1.03, 3.18)], utilizing family health card [AOR=5.09; (95% CI=2.88, 8.99)], time to travel to nearby health facility [AOR=2.23; (95% CI=1.051, 4.75)] and mothers who had information about availability of GMP [AOR=4.75; (95% CI=2.36, 9.55)] were found factors associated with GMP service utilization.
Recommendation Even though GMP service utilization wasbetter compared to studies conducted in Ethiopia, so need to improve maternal GMP service utilization through institutional delivery, accessing media for information, increasing outreach service sites for GMP and provide family health card with clear understanding.
