Physical education teachers and sport coaches have consistently sought for the appropriate teaching style. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the effect of teaching styles (command, reciprocal and guided discovery) on football skills of Bahir Dar Seondary and Preparatory school students. An experimental design is used to test research hypothesis. The data was analyzed by paired-sample t-test and one-way between groups ANOVA. 63 students were selected by employing random sampling technique and grouped into 3 groups random. Eight weeks of training was enough for the retention of the acquired psychomotor skill of students’. The major finding of this study was there was not a significant difference between groups who treated by reciprocal and command teaching styles on passing and dribbling football skills. But there was a significant difference between groups who treated by three teaching style on shooting skill. Based on the major findings of the study, it was concluded that reciprocal and command teaching styles were best methods to teach football skills of passing and dribbling. Besides, command teaching style was superior to teach football skills of shooting. Consequently, teachers should be familiar with suit teaching styles and how to pertain it in order to achieve the intended learning outcome. Furthermore, programs and in service trainings should be provided to teachers to give confidence them to employ a variety of teaching styles for the achievement of educational goals.
