dc.description.abstract It is cross-sectional comparative study to examine the difference between private and public school grade 9 male students of Bahir Dar city administration in selected health related physical fitness tests; In the study 100 male students were selected using Simple random sampling - lottery method from private schools and other 100 male students were selected by systematic sampling method from public schools. The data was collected from a total of 200 students in 5 tests; body mass index (BMI) measured in Kg/m2, flexibility-measured as sit and reach in cm, muscular endurance-measured in 900 push up per minutes, muscular strength- measured as sit up per minutes and cardio-respiratory performance measured as time taken to cover 1000m run. In BMI the mean value in private school is slightly greater than that of public schools and scored better in BMI (20.177 Kg/m2 > 20.0246 Kg/m2). Regarding flexibility, the mean value in public school is greater than that of private schools and public school students scored better in flexibility (16.00cm > 8.55cm). In muscular endurance the mean value in private school is slightly greater than that of public schools and scored better (20.12/min. > 17.41/min.) and in muscular strength, the mean value in private school is slightly less than that of public schools and scored less in muscular strength test (17.03/min. < 18.26/min.). In addition the mean value in private school is greater than that of public schools; private school students scored less in cardio-respiratory fitness (4.5662min. > 3.8787min.). There was significant difference between private and public school male students regarding flexibility (p <0.001), muscular endurance (p = 0.006) and cardio-respiratory fitness (p < 0.001). On the other hand, there was no significant difference between private and public school male students regarding body mass index (p=0.670) and muscular strength (p= 0.204) analyzed at a= 0.05.
