Abstract:
This study was conducted to investigatechallenges ofstudents’ with physical disability participation during physical education practical session in Kemisse Town Administration elementary schools. Cross sectional survey method was employed .The population in the study were 116 physical impaired students using purposive sampling method,10 physical education teacher , 8 school principals, 1 cluster supervisor, 2 woreda education officers, 12 physical impaired studentsparents and 3 BTPDArespondents were involved totally 152 who were participated as the population of the study. The questionnaires were prepared for students, PE teachers and principals. The data obtained from quantitativedata were analyzed using percentage, mean and standard deviations by using SPSS version 20 to make the appropriate statistical inferences and achieve the objectives of the research and arrive at meaningful conclusion. The data obtained through observations, FGD and interview were analyzed by using qualitative techniques through narration, explanations and triangulation method of data analysis and interpretation. In analyzing data appropriately the finding of the research indicate challenges of physical disability students’ participation during PE practical session, from the data analysis, the teacher’s roles in the physical education practical lessons as major theme. Under this theme, sub-categories such as, guided participation, task analysis, facilitated participation, peer support and organization of the learning environment emerged as pertinent issues. Findings from this study revealed that teachers used various techniques in facilitating participation of learners with physical disabilities in physical education practical session. This finding could highlight the need to examine effective teaching techniques that may foster participation of physical disability students in physical education practical session in inclusive classes.When it is observed in terms of the number of items, Kemissie primary schools administrations and PE teachers the challenges they faced that affected the effective participation of physically disabled students during PE practical session of teachers’ performance appraisal system, the mean score equals 2.42.
