dc.description.abstract VII Traditionally, sport has been defined as a masculine domain. Masculine ideas have defined and influenced most sports creating fewer opportunities for females to participate. The main purpose of this study was to identify the lived experience of female athletes by taking Amharacredit and saving institution athletics club as a case in point. To attain the objective of the study, qualitative research approach with phenomenology research was employed. The subjects of this study were 10 female athletes. They were selected by using purposive sampling technique. In-depth interview was used as a sole data collection tool. The data elicited from these participants were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The study found out that female athletes were facing a number of challenges.Those challenges mainly faced before they were joined the ACSI and there are few challenges which the female athletes were faced after they were the athletics club. The major challenges includes socio cultural challenges(absence of role model, misperception of dressing style ,lack of societal acceptance. lack of adequate time ), economic challenges(shortage of nutrition, shortage of sport kits),institutional challenges(absence of apropret training field, unable to get scientific training, invisible media representation of female sport,conflict with coaches),sexual harassment, psychological challenges(committing suicide, stress, isolation, hopelessness), personal challenges(menstrual complication, complication in love affair , dropout from school, delay of success, lack of information about the scince of athlatices sport) and health related challenges(physical injure). The study also found out that there were some opportunities the female athletes enjoyed such as self-independence, access to pocket money, access to health care service , visiting cities cultural exchange,getting provision of sport equipment,makinglife long friends are among the opportunities. To cope up with their problem they were using different coping strategies for instance being patience and tolerable, seeking advice from friends, , borrowing money, telling famous female athlete's story and go to the hospitalandmassageing are among the coping mechanisms. It can be conclude that female athletes were facing a number of challenges in their athletics life with a few opportunities. Finally, recommendations and future directions for further study and intervention are highlighted in line with the major findings of the study.
