dc.description.abstract	Introduction: In low income countries more than 50% of blood donations are made by replacement and paid donors, many people in these countries are faced with lack of knowledge, misperceptions and fears about the blood donation process, which result in a limited number of voluntary non-remunerated regular blood donors. Such countries are challenged to find creative recruitment methods to combat misconceptions about blood donation and to motivate the public to donate. The median whole blood donations in low income countries were reported as 2.8 (0.4-8.2) per 1000 population which is very low comparing with 36.4 donation in developed countries. In Ethiopia, it is less than five donations per 1000 population. Objective: To assess knowledge, attitude, practice and associated factors towards voluntary blood donation among adults in Bahirdar city. Methods: A community based cross sectional study design will be employed with multistage sampling technique among adults in Bahirdar city, Amhara National Regional State from July 1-7, 2014. Ten trained data collectors and two supervisors will be involved in the data collection process. A total of 733 eligible adults will participate in this study and a pre-tested structured interviewer administered questionnaire will be used. The returned questionnaires will be checked for completeness, cleaned manually and entered in to EPI INFO version~);tatistical software and then transferred to SPSS windows version 16.0 for further analysis. Tables, charts and graphs will be used to describe the data; percentage will be used to identify the proportion of knowledge, attitude and practice. Logistic regression will be used to identify the associated factors for practice.
