~mall and subsistence farming arc the major activity like other parts of the courury where
land frng111en1uliun might be the limitation for the successfulness of irrigation schemes.
Dnh1 was collected from eighty-five target farmers living at sub kebele in Ambomesk
kebelc and from previously established irrigation schemes. The <lulu were anatyzed based
on qualitetive method that are s.ructured and semi structured questioner. open and close
ended Interview with target farmers anc field survey were conducted. I .and register has
been used as A secondary data source.
The study has been tried to asses the severities or land fragmentation in irrigable and
lound some causes and impact of land fragmentution. For instuncc in South wollo 1.1)11e
"ilh in three woredas some former hove 64 I 02 plots with a size or 1.04 ha, someone can
~ny 1his iR an exceptional case, I Iowcvcr this problem is a problem of mun: woredas
tound In >outlt Wollo. The average holding of plots in the study area is 6-7 parceled per
individual nnc.l lhc average distance from farm stead is filly-seven minutes all most om;
hour. When the result found in the study compared w;th previous studies conducted by
differem lnrc'teciunls, currently, pint number and disLancc shows an increment.
However according to the opinion of concerned body land consolidation is not included
in the live year strategic plan of the region, but the land law and policy promote formers
co consolidate their land (having one parcel instead of fragmented and dispersed plots
e'petiolly in irrigable lands), for voluntary farmers tu sroup/cunsolidatc their form
El'LAUA provide free service to survey the plots and to change land holding book as an
incentive, Based on Ilic finding it could be thus conclude having positive attitude from
beneficiaries farmers sides are not sufflcieru ro implement land consolidatlon/grouping.
There is A need to misc awareness of stake holders and initiate 1he111 to lntegrare their
activity to ~111.I successful output,
