Secretarial and clerical work is one of the most highly segregated, feminized, traditionally excluded, marginalized, and isolated type of occupation. To this effect, the academic communities including Ethiopian scholars have so far given little attention to it. The data collected from these participants were analyzed through thematic analysis technique. The findings of the study found out that secretaries had faced multiple types of violence. Physical violence such as hitting and overburden; emotional violence like insult, silencing and humiliating; and sexual violence such as attempted rape and unwanted touching were the major types of gender based violence that female secretaries encounter. The study also found out they were not get their practical needs such as access to day care center and payment for overtime work and additional works. Surprisingly enough, they were denied access to annual leave, further education, training and career development as opposed to other office workers. Notwithstanding, they had encountered such challenges, they had enjoyed certain opportunities which include getting benefit by typing words for other people, getting access to latest computers and software that mitigate their previous burden and absence of female role models. Finally, it was concluded that female secretaries were working with a dozen of challenges but with few opportunities. Therefore, concerned bodies should take various measures to ameliorate the working conditions of female secretaries.
