Abstract:
Designing coordination compounds by ligand tailoring with therapeutic abilities has become a fascinating research field. In this work three new 1, 10-Phenanthroline and 2, 2’-Bipyridine mixed ligand complexes of ([Ni(phen)(H2O)4]Cl2, [Ni(phen)(bpy)(H2O)2]Cl2 and [Ni(phen)(bpy)(H2O)2](ClO4)2.11H2O) were synthesized. The complexes were characterized by using halide test, conductance measurement, and spectroscopic analyses (ICP-OES, FTIR, and UV/Vis) analysis and the result indicate that both ligands are coordinated to the nickel metal ion giving octahedral geometry for all complexes. Their in vitro antibacterial activities were also investigated on two Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Staphylococcus epedermis(S.dermis) and two Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae)) bacteria. However, all the complexes showed no activites againest all the pathogens.
