The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of physical education on academic achievement of male football players’ in Debresina town. For this, descriptive Survey research design was employed and 75 project players ’from Debresina male football project players’, 3 project coaches, 5 physical education teachers 3 from one primary and 2 from one secondary school and 3 school principal were selected 1 from one secondary school, and 2 school principal from one primary school, all are the above data were selected by purposive sampling method to collect data .The instruments for collecting data were; questionnaires of close-ended prepared for players and coaches, questionnaires of open-ended prepared for school physical education teachers and school principal using structured interview and document analysis for players yearly grade result to collect data. In order to interpret the data collected through questionnaire and structured interview, percentages using tables were used for quantitative data gathered from players’ and coaches and descriptive used for qualitative data gathered from school physical education teachers and school principal and the result showed that, physical education have an effect on academic achievement of players’ by the following ways; Physical education activities increases neural and behavioral concomitants associated with the allocation of attention to a specific cognitive task, has both immediate and long term benefits almost immediately after engaging in physical activities allow players’ to be better in concentration of class room tasks which can enhance learning, over time as students engage in developmentally appropriate physical activity their improved physical fitness can have additional positive effects on their academic achievement in different subject areas, used as a break from academic learning time post engagement effects include; better attention, increased on task behaviors and improved academic performance, can help players’ to feel better about themselves and their lives, reduce anxiety and improve mood, facilitate certain aspects of information processing in players’ and effects on psychological health there has been substantial interest in the potential impacts of improved fitness and exercise on cognitive function and learning in students’. |
