Abstract
Physical fitness training is one of the sport activities that has a positive effect on trainees in football skill performance as a result of this it acquires a wide attention locally and globally so it concerns with the variety of concepts and fitness as a basic requirements for improvement of technical skills. The purpose of the present study was to determine the effect of physical fitness training on football player skill performance of secondary schools in Burie woreda. To achieve the purpose, Quasi-Experimental design was used. 40 male football players of Atikem and shikudad were taken purposively as a sample study their age were 15-16 years. Experimental group (n=20) performed physical fitness training three days per week for 3-month on squat jump, Bounding speed and Illinois agility drill and control group (n=20) however, did not perform this selected fitness training, both groups undergone normal football training program. And both groups had taken pre and post-tests. So, all subjects participated in 3 selected football skill performance tests: figure-8 dribbling, speed dribbling & power shoot. The data was analyzed and compared with the help of statistical procedures in which arithmetic mean, standard deviation and paired t test was used. The level of p≤0.05 considered as significant level. The result showed that on figure-8 dribbling test control group MD=.05 & P=.789 while experimental MD=1.2 & P=.005, speed dribbling test control MD=-.001 & P=.865& whereas experimental MD=-7435 & P=.006 and power shooting test control group MD=.05 & P=.834 while experimental MD=.95& P=.001.Therefor, physical fitness training for twelve weeks is more effective in increasing the dribbling and shooting skills of male football players of students in Burie woreda secondary school. Generally, the present study concluded that physical fitness training had a significant effect on students’ football skill performance through the selected football skill tests. Hence, physical fitness training is effective and beneficial for the enhancement of male students’ football skill performance.
