The main objectives of this study was to investigate the challenges and practices of managing sport equipment and facilities and utility in south Gondar Zone Youth and Sport offices. To do this, descriptive survey method was conducted. In this study 17 managers/ leaders 65 officers and 16 store keepers were participated. The sample size was all the population because the population size was small. Adequate amount of data were collected by using multiple data collection tools. Predominantly questionnaires were piloted for reliable and validity. However, in order to assure both validity of data that obtained from questionnaires triangulation method was applied by using structured interviews and personal observation. The collected data obtained from questionnaires, interviews and personal observation were analyzed qualitatively through frequency, percentage and interpreted by using descriptive statistics. Generally, the finding reviled that the sport equipment and facilities were not checked by sport manager, officers and store keepers due to the lack of knowledge, less experance they applayed poor management and supervision. Thus, sport equipment and facilities were not managed and maintained properly. These was affect the performance of sport development in the study area because sport development is depneding on tha access of sport facilities and equipment. In conclusion, the study indicated that there is a problem of managing and maintaining of sport equipment and facilities. Effective and proper managing and maintaining of sport equipment and facilities have a positive contribution to a performance of athletes and societies. Therefore, to reduce the encountered problems the researcher recommaneded that all the responsible bodies should be gave attention to managing and maintain the sport equipment and facilites properly.
