Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to identify the major Challenges in Physical Education
Curriculum Implementation at Debre Markos City Administration Preparatory Schools.
To do this adescnptive survey method was conducted. In this study three hundred fifty
six students, five teachers, three curriculum implementers and two directors were
participated. The sample size of the study was selected by using simple random and
purposive sampling methods. Besides this adequate amount of data were collected by
using multiple data collection instruments. However in order to assure the validity of that
obtained from questionnaires triangulation method was applied by using semi structured
interviews and field observation was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Generally
the finding revealed that, the pre determined objectives are not achieved by the learners,
there were no any supervisory activities and academic support for physical education,
there was no equal opportunity for students with disabilities to participate in physical
education practical classes and there were a serious problem to get the syllabus. The
major challenges yn physical education curriculum implementation were lack of sport
equipments and facilities, the shortage of given periods per a week, less academic
competency, less commitment and fitness of some physical education teachers, the school
principals did not give emphasize to the subject, the subject were not given entrance

regularly to support physical education curriculum implementation. For further
....S. improvement of teaching effectiveness those major challenges must avoid and suggested
as potential solutions to 'the proper implementation of effective teaching of physical
education.
