This study was aimed at investigating teachers' perception and practice of the ,- constructivist teaching method and the major obstructs affecting its Ir • · implementation in secondary schools of Awi administrative zone. To attain this purpose, descriptive survey method was employed. Two sample woredas were selected purposefully from the total of ten woredas of the zone. The subjects in this study were 108 teachers, 300 students, and 4 principals of the selected secondary schools. Teachers and principals were selected by employing comprehensive sampling method whereas the sample students were selected us!11.9 simple random sampling (lottery) method. To gather the data av;ilable to the study, questionnaire, observation, interview and focus group discussion were used. The collected data were analyzed and interpreted by employing both qualitative method and quantitative method such as percentage, frequency and m6n values. The study also reveals that teachers are not found practicing the CTM yet as intended. Although the magnitude of practicing the CTM in the selected schools is relatively in the right direction, the ll-scale application of the method still shows a big-gap due to certain barriers, such as class size, shortage of time to cover the text books, and poor background knowledge af the students to communicate using the medium of instruction (i.e. English) . ..
