Background: Peptic ulcer disease represents a worldwide health problem because of its high mortality and morbidity in up to 30% and 50% of patients, respectively) & economic loss. Perforated peptic ulcer is one of the serious acute complications of peptic ulcer with potential of resulting in bad outcomes. It occurs in 2-10% of patients with ulcer disease and its principal treatment is surgical. There are only few published reports on this big health burden in our country so far.
