This study assessed athlete-coach relationships and their impact on motivation, team cohesion, and
players' satisfaction in the Injibara Ketema football club. The target population for this study
consisted of all Injibara town football club players, coaches, and team leaders. The total population
of the study included 25 players, 4 coaches and 1 team leader; a total of 30 individuals is the target
population of the study. Because relatively small in number comprehensive sampling method was
applied to select the sample participants of the study. Employing a correlational research design,
data were collected using a structured questionnaire from athletes. Descriptive and inferential
statistics, specifically Pearson correlation analysis, were used to analyse quantitative data.
Additionally, semi-structured interviews with coaches and team leaders provided qualitative insights
into relationship dynamics. The results revealed that there was a statistically significant correlation
between positive athlete-coach relationships and enhanced player motivation, team cohesion, and
satisfaction. The discussion highlights the critical role of coach-athlete relationships in fostering a
positive and supportive environment, ultimately influencing player development and team
performance. It is concluded that cultivating strong, positive athlete-coach relationships is essential
for optimising athlete experience and team effectiveness. Recommendations include implementing
coach training programs focused on relationship-building and communication strategies. |
