Abstract:
This study investigates the implementation strategies for Kaizen in Ethiopian manufacturing industries, with a focus on identifying the key factors that contribute to both the success and failure of Kaizen practices. Despite a decade of Kaizen implementation in Ethiopia, there is a need to improve the maintenance of its advantages within organizations. The research utilizes a survey- based approach, involving 72 experienced workers and managers from eight manufacturing companies associated with the Ethiopian Kaizen Institute (EKI). Data collection methods include questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The qualitative data collected from these sources were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 27.0.1. The study findings emphasize the significance of several implementation strategies, such as clear and organized company activity plans, adequate budget allocation, strong commitment and support from top management, continuous training programs, and active employee participation in small change activities. These strategies are crucial for successful Kaizen implementation and for enhancing the overall performance of manufacturing companies in Ethiopia.
Based on the study's results, it is recommended that both implementing companies and the EKI prioritize these strategies in their strategies and operations. Additionally, organizations should embrace the Kaizen philosophy as an integral part of their organizational systems to ensure sustainable improvement and growth. By addressing these implementation strategies, Ethiopian manufacturing industries can effectively harness the benefits of Kaizen practices and drive continuous improvement in their operations.
