Blood is a specialized body fluid that plays a crucial role in transporting oxygen and nutrients to the lungs and cells, while simultaneously carrying waste to the liver and kidneys. This continuous process is vital for sustaining life, and blood donation stands out as one of the most significant contributions to society. It is particularly essential during surgeries, childbirth, instances of heavy bleeding, organ transplants, blood diseases, cancer treatments, and various medical procedures, serving as a life-sustaining and life-saving measure. The blood traceability system, classified as an information system, plays a crucial role in managing and tracking products within the supply chain. However, the healthcare sector faces challenges regarding the location of hospitals where the necessary blood bags are stored, which is essential for patients in need.Additionally, there is a lack of information flow from the donor registration to the distribution of blood to patients, which hampers efficient coordination and delivery of blood to those in need. Coordination and integration through an information system can alleviate existing challenges in managing blood bags within the blood supply chain. The blood traceability system, a type of information system, effectively manages and tracks blood bags in the blood supply chain, improving monitoring, enhancing the safety of patients and medical staff, and increasing the efficiency of blood bag management. Critical factors in meeting the demands for blood bags in the Ethiopian blood supply chain include the availability of blood bags, adequate quality, and quick distribution. The Ethiopian blood and tissue bank, as the authority managing blood bags from donor supply to patient distribution, is crucial in this process. This thesis utilized design science research as a methodologyto build and evaluate the design artifact as well as pythonas a toolfor high performance and security of the design artifact. Therefore, the mainobjective of this thesis is to enhance blood traceability and distribution processes. This will be achieved through the development of an advanced web-based system for the Ethiopian blood and tissue bank service, integrating blood bag operations from the major actors in the blood supply chain.This thesis also employed an android application to aid in locating hospitals where the required blood bag is available.According to the results from the evaluation, the average percentage of the performance and usability of the designed artifact is 86%. This outcome indicates that the developed donated blood traceability system has successfully achieved and addressed the research objectives and research questions.
