dc.description.abstract The main purpose of this study was to find out the practice and challenges of women’s football in Ethiopia. Women’s football players under Ethiopian football Federation, Sport Commission and Ethiopian Football Federation Officers, Sport Journalist, Former women’s football players were the main target of this study. They were about 435 in number. Random, Purposive and snowball sampling technique were employed to select samples. Quantitative and qualitative mixed methods, design were employed. The major instruments used in this study were questionnaires and interview. The questionnaires were administered for active women football players under Ethiopian first and second division premier league. Semi-structured interview was conducted with Ethiopian Football Federation officers, sport commission officers, former women football players and sport journalists. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed for the analysis of quantitative data. Besides, to see the expected and observed mean difference of the data one sample t- test was employed; whereas the data gathered through interview were analyzed thematically. The major findings of the study include the wrong administrative practice, psychological and socio-cultural, Low number of women in football administrative and decision making positions, Absence of technical support from the federation and clubs during women’s football training and/or competitions, Scarcity of funding and sponsorship, problem of implementing the scientific approach of football training during women’s football brining up program are considered as a challenges related to administrative practice. Additionally, low self-efficacy level of women’s football players in Ethiopia was considered as a psychological problem. Besides Low number of women in football administrative and decision making positions, Absence of technical support from the federation and clubs during women’s football training and/or competitions, Scarcity of funding and sponsorship, problem of implementing the scientific approach of football training during women’s football brining up program are considered as a challenges related to administrative practice. Moreover the scarcity of football facilities and infrastructure, less football participation of women in their school age, loss of cooperative works between Ethiopian football federation and Sport commission and low media coverage are the major challenges that affects the promotion and development of women’s football in Ethiopia. en_US
