dc.description.abstract Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a digital technology that enables the creation and management of building information throughout the project lifecycle. This paper presents a study on the application of BIM in the Ethiopian construction industry. The study aims to develop and validate a BIM execution plan (BEP) for a case building project, develop 4D and 5D models to evaluate the effectiveness of 4D and 5D BIM tools and processes in reducing time delays and cost overruns. Finally, it proposes a workflow for the implementation of BIM in construction phase. In order to achieve these objectives, the study adopts a mixed-methods approach, consisting of a systematic literature review, an interview, and a case study. The literature review provides the theoretical background and the best practices for BEP template preparation. The case study involves the development of 3D, 4D, and 5D BIM models for a case building project, and the analysis of the benefits and challenges of using BIM for planning, scheduling, and cost estimation. The interview collects data from construction professionals on their experience on the, usage of BIM in the project. The results show that BIM can improve the quality of design, enhance the communication and collaboration among project stakeholders, and facilitate the detection and resolution of conflicts and errors. Moreover, BIM can help to reduce time delays and cost overruns by providing accurate and timely information for decision making. The results will be beneficial for practitioners, various stakeholders, and policy makers in order to enhance BIM implementation in the Ethiopian public construction sector.
