DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF BOX TYPE SOLAR COFFEE MAKING STOVE FOR ROAD COFFEE MAKERS

dc.description.abstract Box type solar cooker integrated with compound parabolic collector and thermal energy storage material of fire clay in a total mass of 2.5 kg with in a truncated container of volume 1.136x10 -3 m 3 . The box constructed in double gazing cover, internal part of box covered by aluminum sheet with black painted and fiber glass insulation material. Each part of the box temperatures calculated by MATLAB software and done by experimental test, main parts of the box are horizontal glass 1(upper), horizontal glass 2 (inner), vertical glass 1 (upper), vertical glass 2 ( inner), the absorber plate and the thermal storage, the temperature values gained by MATLAB software are 92 o C, 112 o C, 94 o C, 135 o C, 145 o C, and 105 o C respectively. The experimental result for horizontal glass 1(upper), horizontal glass 2 (inner), vertical glass 1 (upper), vertical glass 2 (inner), the absorber plate and thermal storage material are 91 o C, 132.9 o C, 95.4 o C, 137.9 o C, 148.9 o C and 110 o C respectively. The first figure of merit, second figure of merit, standard cooking power and efficiency are 0.15, 0.386, 41W and 25% respectively. The payback period estimated as 2 years in a total manufacturing cost of 8,849 birr. Key words: box type solar cooker en_US
