Background:Job satisfaction is a feeling that measure cognitive and behavioral aspects of workers’ towards their job. Job satisfaction is found to be one of the most important factors determining the quality of work, productivity, turnover and organizational performance.A consistent leadership is needed to achieve high performance and enhance employees’ capabilities to improve the quality of care and outcomes.
Objective: Objective of the study was to assess the relationship between leadership styles and employee job satisfaction among health care professionals working in Bahir Dar public hospitalsin 2022.
Methods: -cross sectional study design was conducted from May 28-June 27,2022 to investigate the relationship between managers leadership style and employee job satisfaction among health care professionals. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 464 study participants by using lottery method.Data were collected from study subject by using self-administered questionnaire using standardized tools to measure leadership style and job satisfaction. Data were entered into EPI datastatistical software version 3.0 and then it was exported to SPSS version 23 for analysis.Variables that have p-value ≤0.25 by simple binary logistic regression were includedin multivariable binary logistic regression. Variables that have P- value<0.05 at 95% CI were considered as statistically significant.
Result Overall level of job satisfaction was 42.7 % (95% CI: 0.38-0.47) at response rate of 93.3%. Managers’transformational leadership styles were significantly associated with employee job satisfaction. Managers’ transformational leadership styles as perceived by study participants were1.75times more odds of beingsatisfied at 95% CI (1.396-2.57). Transactionaland laissez-fair leadership styles were negatively associated with employee job satisfaction.Conclusion and recommendations: -overall level of job satisfaction was low (42.7%). Managers’ transformational Leadership stylewas significantly related to employee job satisfaction. Hospital administrators should focus on managers transformational leadership behaviors through giving short term and long term trainingbecause leaders behavior can able to foster followers’ commitment to the organizations and inspire them to exceed their expected performance.
