Introduction: Fractures of the tibial plateau involve the articular surface of the proximal tibia. The functional outcome tibial plateau fracture in resource-limiting countries was not known. Factors that most predictably lead to favorable outcomes are controversial. Objective: Assessment of functional outcome of tibial plateau fracture at Tibebe Ghion Referral Hospital and Felege Hiwot Specialized Referral Hospital, Bahirdar, Amhara Region, Ethiopia from, May 1, 2022, to July 30, 2022 Methods: Cross-sectional study was conducted from May 1 to July 30, 2022. A total of 208 patients with tibial plateau fractures were treated between Feb. 20018 and Feb. 2022 and 191 patients were retrospectively reviewed. The patient's functional status after treatment was determined using the modified Rasmussen's clinical criteria. Data was entered through Epi-info version 7 and exported to SPSS 26. For analysis frequency, cross tab, correlation, linear and binary logistic regression was used. Results and discussion; About 140 male and 51 female patients treated with tibial plateau fracture from Feb 1, 2018, to Feb 1 2022 were included in the study. The mean age was 45 ± 13yrs. Most 115 (67%) patients sustained injuries following a road traffic accident and motorbike accident. The mean duration of immobilization of knee joint after non-operative and operative groups was 8.8, and 3.2 weeks respectively. Most of the patients had functional outcomes poor. The mean duration of partial weight bearing after ORIF, external fixation, and Plaster Of Paris cast was 4.7, 7.3, and 8.03 weeks respectively. The patient who initiated partial weight bearing in earlier weeks had better functional outcomes than those who initiated later (greater than 8 weeks). Patients with short duration of immobilization had better functional outcomes than patients with long duration. Conclusion; In this study period of immobilization, period of partial weight bearing, and stiffness of knee joint affect the functional outcome of tibial plateau fracture.
