Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to assess practice and challenges of sport administrations on the development of football sport. A descriptive survey study is used to carry out the research mixed approaches were used. The subjects of this study were 6 sport experts, 12 football committee members, 6 coaches, and 108 players were selected. In addition 6 sport administrators and 4 former players were interviewed. Purposive sampling technique and Simple random sampling technique were employed on the selection of the Sample population; three instruments questionnaire, interview and Observation checklist were used to gather the data. Prior to the actual data collection a pilot study was conducted to ensure the reliability and validity of the instruments. The results obtained from questionnaires, interviews and observation checklists are analyzed. Data obtained from the close-ended questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively by using statistical methods such as frequency , percentage, onesample t-test, by statistical package for social science (SPSS 25 version).Whereas qualitative data were analyzed by summarizing the words.The major problems were; presence of poor practice of sport administration, Shortage of facilities and equipments, salary,budget deficit, lack of well trained man power, lack of job integration among sport experts, coaches, committee, and inadequate support given by Dessie city administration were found among the main hindering challenge .Result conduct the Mean score of sport equipment and material (M=1.85±1.16), availability of footballsport facility (M= 1.63±0.84).To overcome these problems, the following have been forwarded. Dessie city administration sport office is better to have a strong commitment to work together with the general public and investors by creating awareness about the importance of football sport for social development. Dessie city administration sport office is better to introduce new strategically change in the administration system that give more focuses to football facility and equipment to fulfill as needed, design ways of producing financial sources, work cooperatively with sponsors and medias to generate income and the government is better to train and fulfill the required professionals and provide performance enhancing and refreshment training for clubs and sports office staff.
