| dc.description.abstract | Background: Chemotherapy for cancer involved different complications and harsh effects on the patient’s general health in emotional, social, physical, and spiritual dimensions. Chemotherapy basically created important crisis on different dimensions of the patients’ life. Some patients have explained as chemotherapy is worse than the cancer itself. Objectives: To explore the lived experience of people living with cancer attending chemotherapy in Felege-Hiwot Comprehensive Specialize Hospital, north-west Ethiopia, 2021. Methods: A phenomenology study design conducted in Felege Hiwot comprehensive specialized hospital with 13 participants from fibruary17/2021 to may 23 /2021. Purposive sampling technique was used to select participants. Data was gathered from people attending chemotherapy through in-depth interview guide. Analysis was done by the transcribed recorded audio tape data in to Amharic in word, then translated in to English, reading more & entered in to atlas ti 7 software and apply code, displaying data, data reduction, develop them and interpretation. The data quality was kept by using the principles of credibility, dependability, conformability and transferability. Result: - The main themes were serious of the disease, affected usual role, financial problem, psychological influence and challenges to get chemotherapy. The contexts of participants to develop their experience were suffered by side effect of the chemotherapy, the shortage of the treatment and Laboratory investigation in oncology center, the fair of stigma to restrict their life in social movement, inaccessibly of the service unit in their surroundings makes challenge for their life. Conclusion and recommendations: - The participant restrict from the different activities related to the side effect of the chemotherapy and seriousness of the disease which leads to psychological influence of the patient and family and challenge to get chemotherapy. Support the cancer patients by the financial and develop awareness on the community level about the condition of the disease to reduce the financial problem and psychological influence and also develop trust on the treatment by deep counseling.
