Abstract:
Background: Trachoma is one of the most common Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) and the leading infectious cause of blindness worldwide. The blinding stage of trachoma (Trachomatous Trichiasis, TT) causes considerable pain, and visual impairment leading to functional and physical impairment, exclusion, feelings of shame, and self and community inflicted stigma. However, no validated tools are available to assess and monitor stigma in trachoma affected communities. We tested the cross-cultural validity of the 5-Question Stigma Indicators (5-QSI) in trachoma affected communities in West Gojam zone, Amhara Region.
