dc.description.abstract Reinforced concrete (RC) jacketing is one of the most used techniques to improve load carrying capacity of reinforced concrete structures. The interface shear strength between substrate and overlay concrete affects performance of strengthened RC structure. Also, surface roughness, bonding agent, curing condition influences behavior of reinforced concrete jacketing. This research work experimentally investigates interface shear strength between self-compacting concrete and normal strength concrete. This helps to provide suggestions for concrete surface treatment when RC structures are strengthened with self-compacting concrete jacketing. A total of 72 specimens (36 specimens having slant interface and 36 specimens having vertical interface) were casted and tested until failure at 3, 7 & 28 days. The joint interface surfaces were prepared and treated using four different forms such as (I) smooth, (II) roughened using a hammer and chisel, (III) roughened using a hammer and chisel; and treated with cement paste as a bonding agent; and (IV) roughened using a hammer and chisel; and treated with chemical adhesive (MC-TEchniBond SBR) as a bonding agent. Experimental results showed as compared to control (Type I) specimen, type II, III and IV specimens exhibited increase in interface shear strength by 106.6%, 129.1% and 427.8% for vertical interface configuration whereas same specimens for slant interface configuration resulted in interface shear strength of 107.4%, 198.5% and 580.8%, respectively at 28 days. Overall, application of MC-TechniBond SBR bonding agent to both slant and vertical interfaces offered superior performance.
