dc.description.abstract This study aims to explore the challenges and coping strategies women leaders: the case of women leaders in Amhara national regional state government organizations. Key research questions that guided the study were: What challenges woman face at the leadership positions in the study area? And what are the coping mechanisms used by woman leaders to deal with their problems. The study used qualitative research approach and case study design used in-depth interview method and focus group discussion (FGD) methods of data collection. The researcher used purposive sampling in the selection of participants. It was discovered that women leaders faced different challenges. The results show how female leaders are coping with problems. The challenges are work place challenges like Stereo type from service users/Customers, Challenge from colleagues, Challenge from top officials, Lack of support or empowerment, absence of enabling working environment, family related challenges like overburden of domestic responsibility, care giving burden, Conflict with husbands as well as community role challenges such as lack of time to attend and participate in a social ceremony and local social associations. To cope with the challenges they discuss with colleagues, asking and accepting opinion and complaints from staff and customer, knowing and carefully discharge their responsibilities as well as doing practical work to show their capability and to minimize challenges from staff, providing speedy and appropriate service for a customer, developing self-confidences and developing self-reliant habit as well as making themselves responsible for their concussions, rules, and regulation as well as through avoiding passiveness, fear and simply accepting orders from top officials are the major cop with mechanisms adopted by participants to solve the challenges they face. The findings of this study can be seen in a number of ways. Ignorance is a fundamental problem along with absence of a system in which leaders can be empowered in addition, it shows that women are unhappy with the leadership of their spouses conflicts, which is a major obstacle to the success of their work, and that they do not attend social events. And also different family related challenges showed that this study finally, research has shown that women leaders are trying to be more effective in developing and managing these problems. The study recommends, as a researcher, we need to build the capacity of the attitude and good perception of women leaders so; government and non-government organization work and focused in this area, and also share the workload with the family, easily use of technology, and help them stay in close contact with the society en_US
