dc.description.abstract Distribution system is the final stage in the delivery of electricity to end users. This system network carries electricity from the transmission system and delivers it to consumers. In the radial distribution system, there is poor power quality for bus voltage, a flow of real & reactive power. In this thesis an attempt is made to conduct the power flow control in distribution system by using Static VAR Compensator (SVC) device in the case study. This device is facilitated by a formulation of power flow equations with bus voltage magnitudes and power flows on distribution lines as independent variables. By using ETAP software Newton Raphson load flow method is applied on the existed single line diagram. Using the Optimal Capacitor Placement method for optimal ratting of SVC device, this thesis analyzed the application of SVC device for power flow control and bus voltage improvement. The result implied that: - within proper optimal placement of SVC device, the active power loss is improved by 19.60%. The reactive power loss is also improved by 22.37%. The weak buses voltage magnitudes are improved after the inclusion of SVC. The lowest bus voltage magnitude was 0.8625 pu, which is below the permissible bus voltage magnitude and after the inclusion of SVC this voltage, is improved to 0.9775 pu. This thesis definitely addressed the mechanism regarding bus voltage enhancement and power loss minimization in the distribution system by the inclusion of SVC to the system. en_US
